What does LF mean on our utility bills?
LF stands for Lagoon Fee. In order to meet the more stringent limits for the ammonia nitrogen limits, set forth by the IOWA DNR, our current wastewater treatment plant (sewer lagoon) must have improvements made to it. The city will use a Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) loan to fianance the multi million dollar project along with grant monies the city was received. Due to the requirement of the loan, it was necessary to add the Lagoon Fee to the utility bills.
